E-Waste Dumping Ban Passes in Colorado Legislature

Colorado will soon be one of the U.S. states to ban e-waste dumping in the state’s landfills—we hope! The legislation for this bill was passed in the Senate and the House of Representatives, the later in a 43-20 vote. It will now go to Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper for approval. If Hickenlooper signs the bill, Colorado will join 17 other states that have similar laws. If and when the measure does become law, it is estimated to create up to 2,500 new jobs in Colorado. Similar legislation has failed in previous years because it placed the recycling burden on manufacturers. The current proposal mandates that state agencies arrange for e-waste recycling with certified recyclers. The law will go into effect on July 1, 2013 if the bill gains final approval. Way to go Colorado! Let’s hope this bill passes. For more information click here.
