Now onto the blog post:

We all know that we should go green. Not only is it the right thing to do, but it’s logical. So why don’t more of us make green decisions? Here’s why:

  • We don’t know: Before I started working at All Green Electronics Recycling, I didn’t know that irresponsible recyclers would ship my old computer off to a landfill in China or Ghana.
  • But we don’t want to know: It’s depressing to learn about things you can’t change.
  • We don’t want to be perceived the wrong way: I thought when I got older that people would care less about this sort of thing. I thought wrong. I can’t tell you the number of people I know who won’t carry a reusable bag because they don’t want to be perceived as a hippie.
  • We can’t afford it: Many green products have higher upfront costs than non-green products. We don’t want to pay the difference.
  • It’s too much work: Composting? Remembering my reusable bags/water bottle? It’s a lot of work, isn’t it?
  • We don’t think it will make a difference: I’m one person out of almost seven billion. Why do my actions matter?

Why don’t you make more green decisions? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for our follow-up post about how to counter these thoughts.
