Not all reusable bags are created equal

You just made the switch from disposable plastic bags to reusable ones and you’re feeling pretty good about it. But did you know that you could just be trading one problem in for another?

A recent study showed that many common reusable bags contain high levels of lead. CVS and Safeway had the most, with 697 and 672 ppm respectively.

Although this is an alarming fact, you don’t have to give up on reusable bags yet. You can still find great options—just choose wisely. Of the bags tested, Wegmans, Fred Meyer, Trader Joe’s, and McDonalds all contained relatively low levels of lead. There are also hundreds of lead-free grocery bags out there that are made from natural fabrics.
