HUNTINGTON BEACH Recycle an old television and get a free lift ticket to Mt Baldy.

Through the month of January, All Green Electronics Recycling will hand out a free lift ticket for Mt Baldy for each computer or television brought in for recycling at their various events in Orange County, said Jeff Waymire, events coordinator for the recycling outfit. The tickets are standard lift tickets that are good during the weekday.

The first event is scheduled for Jan 8 and 9 at the Huntington Beach Library, 7111 Talbert Ave. The 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. event will also accept cellular phones, toner cartridges, calculators and other electronics for recycling.

However, only televisions and computer are eligible for the free ski lift ticket program.

“It could be a 1972 Macintosh and it’ll work for the program,” Waymire said.

Most electronic equipment contains hazardous material such as lead and mercury, Waymire said. That’s why, he added, these items should be disposed of in the trash.

He said none of the items they receive ever go to landfills nor get recycled in developing nations. Everything is done in North America, he added.

The following are other dates and locations for free electronic collection events this month:

  • Orange: Jan. 21, 23 and 24 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at All Green headquarters, 579 N. Batavia St.
  • Coto de Caza: Jan. 23 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Coto Sports Park, 31141 Alta Drive.
  • Costa Mesa: Jan. 30 and 31 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce/O.C. Market place, 88 Fair Drive.
