Italy bans the plastic bag

As of New Year’s Day, single-use plastic bags are banned in Italy. This law is good news for the environment, as Italians use about 20 billion plastic bags a year, according to the Huffington Post, and produce a quarter of all plastic bags in Europe.

According to Italian environmental organization Legambiente, this will save 180,000 tons of CO2 emissions and decrease ocean pollution and animal endangerment.
