Teen Decomposes Plastic Bag in Three Months

Use nature to solve a man-made problem!

Canadian teenager Daniel Burd took it upon himself to figure out a way to decompose plastic bags. He knew plastic took a long time to decompose, but because of the fact that it did eventually did decompose, Daniel began his quest to find a better solution to his plastic bag problem.

He first mixed and matched different household products to create the ideal setting for microbe growth. After mixing in his plastic bags he sat and watched the slow decomposition.

After a while, he was able to identity the microbes at work, and continued to tweak his microbe stew to maximize the plastic degrading microbes.
