Ventura E-Waste (J. Serra Elementary School)
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said that it is always advisable to recycle unused electronics because these are made from valuable minerals and other materials like plastic, glass and metals.
Recycling has been proven to conserve our natural resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions that result from the manufacture of virgin materials that are freshly mined from the earth.
Through the years, several US legislations have been passed to encouraged the diversion of E-wastes from the landfills. The American government is pushing for the collection and processing of E-wastes separate from the solid waste stream.
California was the first state to pass legislation on solid waste management to especially prohibit E-waste disposal in landfills and its exportation to third world countries. Approved legislations include the California Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003, the Cell Phone Takeback and Recycling law and the Rechargeable Battery Takeback and Recycling law.
In compliance with existing laws and in support of the American government’s E-waste campaign, the J. Serra Elementary School PTA is organizing an Electronics Recycling Fundraiser where the residents of Ventura City can bring their E-wastes for proper disposal.
