Oscars Documentaries Go Green

Oscars - All Green Electronics RecyclingEver since the success of movies like “An Inconvenient Truth” and “Wall-E,” the environment has been a popular topic in film. In fact, two out of the five documentaries vying for an Oscar this year focus on the environment.

“Gasland” is a film investigating the dangers of drilling for shale gas. The film notably features scenes of residents lighting gas-contaminated water as it comes out of taps.

The second nominee, “Waste Land,” draws attention to the millions of tons of waste generated by consumer societies. It follows artist Vik Muniz as he creates art from items found in an immense landfill outside of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
