California Clean Energy Law Sets a High Bar

Last week, California passed a law requiring a third of the state’s energy to come from renewable sources by 2020. This is the strictest energy mandate in the United States.

Previously, California required 20 percent of its electricity to come from clean sources.

Governor Jerry Brown told the Associated Press at a press conference: “There are people who think we can drill our way to happiness and prosperity. Instead of just taking oil from thousands of miles away, we’re taking the sun and converting it.”

That sounds like a good idea to me!

Colorado was the previous leading state when it comes to clean energy standards, with 30 percent of its electricity coming from clean sources.
